Hello! So this past weekend Michael and I went to Pensacola for a little weekend getaway. Michael was stationed in Pensacola for a little while and we really fell in love with the place! There are a few reasons why we think Pensacola is so awesome. I’m spilling all the best places to go-to below!! In addition I also made a tiny travel diary video about last weekend!! It’s my first #vlog so bear with me…and yes I know I need to make my videos horizontal in the future LOL. I’m going to start making videos more because I think it’s so special to look back years from now and see what we were doing and relive all those memories!
My first VLOG right here :
Why Pensacola is awesome:
One // Pensacola is seriously underrated. I had never even really heard of it until Michael moved there. When I think of vacation spots in the panhandle of Florida I usually think of Destin or Panama City. Pensacola may not be as glamorous as Destin, but it has a ton to offer. It’s awesome that Pensacola is underrated because it’s less crowded and is more inexpensive!
Two // The beaches in Pensacola are not only stunning, but they’re accessible. When you cross the toll bridge and arrive on Pensacola Beach, there are several large beach areas right in the hub of things. These beach areas are super busy and they have lifeguards, but def not our scene. We always drive East (there’s only one main road) and the farther you drive the less crowded the beach areas become. After you pass a lot of beach houses it’s miles and miles of white sand beach access. You can park anywhere along the road and just start walking on the sand to the ocean. It’s so quiet and even in the busy season you can always find a secluded part of the beach. The beaches are really clean and (usually) so is the water. Another great bonus=tons of free parking!! We always go to Opal Beach.
Three // While Pensacola is a beach town, there are ways to have a vacation or getaway there and still stay on budget. The main Pensacola Beach area is great but it is kind of touristy. The hotels are right on the water and a lot of them have really nice pools. We stayed at the Hilton on Pensacola Beach once and loved it, but it did have a pricetag. It was a treat to stay at a hotel that’s on the beach because it def has a resort feel (swanky bar, multiple pools & hot tubs) but if you’re going to just be at the beach all day it may not be worth it. We’ve also stayed at a budget hotel near the Naval Air Station (aka inland and not on the beach) and IMO the cost savings are worth it. If you stay at any hotel that is in inland Pensacola, just not on the beach, you’ll save a ton of money. Just make sure you’re okay with a half hour drive to your beach spot 🙂
Whenever I visit a new city I love hearing real reviews from people I know! So here are a few places in Pensacola that I have personally been to and love!
Where to Eat:
Hemingway’s Island Grill: Omg love this restaurant. It’s on Pensacola Beach and it’s sooo good. Their Salmon St. Croix Salad is incredible. This restaurant is one of the more formal ones on the island.
Red Fish Blue Fish: This restaurant is on Pensacola Beach and has a more relaxed vibe. This place is great if you want to eat outside and have a view of the water. There’s usually a wait at night, but that just means you can walk around a bit until your table is ready! This restaurant is in the center of it all.
Peg Leg Pete’s Oyster Bar: This restaurant is always crazy busy. They’re on the west side of the beach and are not near a bunch of shops or anything. They’re known for their oysters (obvi) and have a ton of options!
The Fish House: This restaurant is not on Pensacola Beach, but you still have a great view of the water!! This is one of my favs. Michael and I would go on dates here when I would visit him in Pcola before we were engaged 🙂 The Fish House has great outdoor seating.
al Fresco: Obsessed with this place. It’s near downtown Pensacola and it’s a little food truck area with outdoor seating surrounded by towering palm trees and lights. We ate there twice this past weekend! Try the chicken & waffles and the taco stand (the avocado tacos were amazing!!).
The Bodacious Brew: This coffee shop is in downtown Pensacola right across from al Fresco!! They have an expansive menu and definitely cater to the coffee snob.
Tin Cow: The Tin Cow is a burger and shake joint in downtown pcola. But guess what…they have spiked milkshake (and yes, they’re delicious). Michael and I love the Russian Cow, Caramel Apple, and Key Lime Pie milkshakes. Oh and their burgers are good too 😉
What to do:
The Beach (obviously): We’ve had beach days at a few different spots on Pensacola Beach. We spent a weekend soaking up sun on the designated dog beach area when we brought Shadow with us. Super dog friendly and awesome! But don’t go to these areas if you’re not bringing your dog… Sans dog Michael and I always travel East and park either on the side of the road on the sand (this is the Opal Beach area), or drive even farther until we see a sign that says “Santa Rosa Area” and then there will be designated parking lots and there’s usually not too many people there. If you’re parking on the side of the road be careful if you don’t have 4 wheel drive!! We pulled a girl’s car out of the sand once with our jeep.
Old Hickory Whiskey Bar: For all the whiskey girls out there (or boys…) go here. You can’t help but feel luxurious when you’re at this whiskey bar!! Loved it and wish we went to this bar more.
Gallery Night: Gallery night is held on a Friday night once a month. Pretty much it’s kind of like a classy block party in downtown Pensacola. The streets close down and you can walk anywhere with a drink in hand and listen to music!
Seville Quarter: Some people may disagree with me on this one…but I thought this was a fun bar! The Seville Quarter is 7 different themed bars in 7 different rooms. One of the bars has dueling pianos and I thought it was just so fun! Fair warning tho when you’re here it can feel like you’re at a college bar.
Segway Tour: Yes we did actually go on a segway tour!! While it can be a little pricey, we had such a blast and thought it was totally worth it. We went with other friends and being on a segway is just so fun. Also the tour guide was really informative and we learned a lot about the history of the city. It’s a fun and fast way to see a lot of the downtown.
I hope you all found this post informative!! If you have been to Pensacola or plan on traveling there, I would love to know!!
P.S. Thank you so so much to everyone who participated in my Caseapp giftcard giveaway!! The winner Brianna K has been emailed.
