I hope you all had a fun & safe weekend celebrating the 4th of July with family and friends! Michael and I hosted a small get together at our house on Saturday night. It was a lot of fun and was actually the first time we have hosted anything at our place. Our townhouse is really small and there’s nothing exciting in the backyard like a pool or even a nice porch so I’ve always been a little worried about hosting! On Sunday one of our friends hosted a big party at their lake house and it was really the best day 🙂
When I lived in Ohio I thought the summers were hot. But honestly they definitely weren’t that bad compared to this Mississippi summer! Whew. It is so muggy and buggy. At this point we usually stay indoors during most of the day and go hiking/running with Shadow at dusk when it’s a little bit cooler.
Because it’s so hot, I find myself always reaching for the same type of outfit! My go-to during these ridiculously hot southern summer months:
Cloth shorts and a breathable shirt with at least a little sleeve. The cloth shorts feel just like PJs! Most cloth shorts have an elastic waistband and aren’t skin tight which is nice when it’s in the upper 90s. As much as I loooove high waisted denim shorts in the summer, sometimes they just feel way too constricting! For shirts I really try to find something that’s super breathable and flowy. I love shirts that have a little sleeve instead of just a tank top because when it’s so muggy and humid it can be a lifesaver to have fabric underneath my arms instead of just skin on skin,#sweaty.
I normally don’t wear sandals with a heel if its super hot but A) I’m in love with these ruffle trim sandals, they’re so comfortable! and B) since we don’t have a super active downtown scene I look for any excuse to wear my “fancy” clothing…
What are your fav summer go-tos? I’m linking the absolute best cloth shorts that I’m crushing on below!
