Michael and I drove up to Louisville, KY (his hometown) for the weekend and snapped some pics there.
I packed this black LBD with me — can you believe it was actually a bridesmaid dress I wore in my cousin’s wedding?? We love a bride who picks classic + timeless bridesmaid dresses. I transformed this bridesmaid into a more chill, chic staple.
Okay so how many of you have (at least) a couple bridesmaid dresses just hanging in your closet? I love all the bridesmaid dress options that are available these days.
So many brides have their bridesmaids pick any dress they want from a certain collection, or at the very least choose a stylish one for all of them to wear. Thankfully bridesmaid dresses aren’t as hideous as they were in the 80s, but a lot of women still hardly ever wear them again. Today I want to share with you all my favorite ways to transform old bridesmaid dresses!
- Get it hemmed. I know, it’s annoying. But just do it. This dress was already above my knees, but I got it hemmed just a couple more inches so it would feel more flirty and less matronly.
- Style your hair loose and down. Bridesmaid dresses are usually made of more formal fabric (think chiffon, etc). Loose waves will give your outfit an overall more casual and relaxed feel. If your hair is in an up-do, it will definitely have a “bridesmaid” vibe! So… no up-do.
- Add a fitted cardigan to totally transform your outfit!! Make sure it is not bulky or too large.
- Finally, add a fun hat to your look; the bigger the better! Obvi, you’d never wear a hat walking down the aisle. This will help finalize the new life you have given your former bridesmaid dress.
Have you guys ever restyled an old bridesmaid dress? If so I would love to hear about it in the comments below!
